9 Things You Need To Survive Postpartum That No One Tells You About

I felt like I did a fair amount of research while pregnant with my first baby to try and figure out what I needed, not only for him, but for myself after delivering. I still had no idea that I would need certain products for the next couple of weeks to help my body heal. Some of these products are supplied during the hospital stay but it's nice to have an extra one or two for when you get home. Thankfully Matt's aunt was sweet enough to get me a little mommy gift bag with some of these items in it, but this time around with baby number two, I'm going to make sure I'm prepared, just in case!

Dermoplast Anesthetic Pain Relieving Spray

This is a spray you use... Ehr ehrm.. down there. It's cooling and feels really nice for the nether regions haha

Maximum Strength Medicated Wipes

I didn't get hemorrhoids, but it is known to happen and whether you get them or not, the witch hazel in these feel really soothing.

Squart bottle

This is something you don't have to purchase, my hospital supplied me with one, but it's just nice to know that this is something you will be using. You'll be filling it with warm water and using it instead of toilet paper.

Great list on things you need to postpartum!

Mesh panties

These were great (Some people seem to hate them) but I thought they were comfy and they're disposable so you don't have to worry about messing up your regular undies. The hospital also supplies you with these and gave me a couple extra to go home with but having a few more for the first few days back home would have been nice.

Hypericum & Calendula Cream

Sooo I was actually feeling great and healing well and then about a week postpartum, the hubby and I decided to go for a long walk. I really wish I would've been easier on my body, I mean, I did just push a baby out after all. After that I started feeling pain and it wouldnt go away. I found out that one of the stitches had separated too soon and there was nothing they would do about it. So I finally read about this cream and ordered it. The pain seemed to go away not too long after, thank goodness. You probably only need this if something similar happens to you, but I thought I'd mention it!

Sits Bath

This is literally just a bath you sit in lol. I guess sitting the warm water helps you heal faster. They recommended I do this a couple times a day for about 10 minutes or so.

Nursing Tank

This one is a no brainer but I actually didn't buy any of these until after I had Eden. I wish i would have bought a few in advance so I didn't have to worry about going to the store and they also would've been great to have in the hospital. I tried the ones from Target and didn't like how loose they fit at the bottom. I prefer these ones from H&M.

Comfy Pajamas/Sweats

Also a no brainer but you'll want to live in these the first few days after giving birth!

Last but not least....

Padsicles

This one is kind of funny and I was almost embarrassed to have these in my fridge but these were amazing and felt so nice! Here's what you need:

Large pads

Aloe Vera

Witch Hazel (Love this one)

Lavender essential oil

Apply the aloe vera, witch hazel, and lavender oil to each pad, then fold them back up with the wrapping and put them in a large ziplock bag. Put them in the fridge or leave them room temp (The aloe will still be pretty cool) and use them as needed postpartum. You'll thank me later!

My Pregnancy Must Haves

Pregnancy isn't always a walk in the park, especially the first trimester! Here are a few things that have really helped me feel as best as I could throughout my second pregnancy!

7 pregnancy must haves

Nuun Energy Tablets - My friend introduced me to these and I have been drinking these practically everyday since. They give my water some flavor, and have a small amount of energy which helps me tackle the day, especially since I haven't been craving coffee like I normally do. They also have vitamins for an added bonus!

Heating Pad - After a long day I love to relax on the couch and watch some Netflix with the hubby! I love lounging around with a heating pad to ease sore muscles which I tend to get a lot, especially now with all of this extra weight! If you know how to sew you can make your own! Check out my heating pad tutorial here.

Water Bottle - I typically don't drink any water unless I have a water bottle in front of me. I just don't think about it. Having a water bottle is essential to get all of the hydration I need during the day, and this one specifically for pregnancy is great!

Facial Wipes - I prefer cleansing my skin the good ol' fashion way, but for those nights that I'm just way too tired, facial wipes work great, and these ones are amazing!

Lavender Bath Salts - I can't live without these! It's so relaxing at the end of the day to take a soaking bath. It helps me feel rested and sleep a lot better too.

This is the best post I've seen about what will help get you through pregnancy!

Protein Bars - Or any healthy snack really, but these are my favorite protein bars. They taste great and keep me feeling full at least until I can get something more substantial in my belly! I always get super hungry during the first trimester, so I always keep snacks like these in my bag.

Comfy Shoes - Especially if you have a toddler like I do, comfy shoes are a must and I love my Adidas Cloadfoam shoes! They're super comfy but also really cute and I've gotten a lot of compliments on them!

That's everything, I hope this helps! Has anything specific helped you get through your pregnancy!? Let me know in the comments below!

Gender Reveal | Baby Number Two!

We decided not to do a gender reveal party this time since our ultrasound was on a Monday, and we didn't want to wait all week to find out what we were having, so we went old school and found out during our ultrasound! When the tech first told us that we're having a boy, I'm not going to lie, I was a little shocked! I was sure we were having a girl. It didn't take long for me to get excited for the fact that I'm going to have two little boys! I love being a boy mom and I can't wait to see Eden as a big brother!

Smoke bombs for this purpose were a little hard to find! These are the ones I bought here.

*Also, they only go for a minute or less so have your camera ready!

How To Dress For a Family Photoshoot

A few weeks ago we took a two day trip to White Sands National Monument to take some family photos for our pregnancy announcement! Even though its only a few hours away, I had never been. It's so gorgeous and it's pretty unbelievable that there is all of this white sand in the middle of nowhere!

Dressing for family photos can be hard so here are a couple tips when trying to come up with your outfits.

Coordinate but don't match

Your outfits should all coordinate, but if you are too matchy matchy your photos won't have any interest and will look outdated. As you can see, my husband is wearing a blue top which has a cream pattern on it. This coordinates with our sons blue pants and my ivory dress. The blues aren't exactly the same shade and his grey shoes play of the grey in my sons shirt. It's all about making it flow!

Plan ahead

Whether you're doing photos with just your spouse and children, or your entire family, make sure you talk with everyone and plan out what you're going to wear.

Colors

Choose 2-3 colors and pick out clothes that will fit this color scheme.

Look at your home decor

If you like bright colors, you might want to dress in brighter clothing, same goes for if you prefer more neutral tones. You will probably be hanging these in your home, so you'll want colors that go with your decor.

Think about your location

Will the colors and outfits look well with your background?

Limit patterns

Subtle patterns are okay, but too many can be distracting, especially if more then one person is wearing them.

I hope these tips help! Do you have any tips I didn't think of? Let me know in the comments below!

These photos were taken by my sister! You can check out her website here.

How I Told My Husband I Was Pregnant With Baby Number Two!

Matt was at work and I found out a couple hours before he got off. I saw a toddler shirt at Target a few days before that said "Promoted to big brother" and thought that would be the perfect way to surprise him! So I went and picked it up and asked Matt if he wanted to meet Eden and I at the park after work. When he got there he didn't notice what Eden's shirt said for the longest time! As they were playing, I started recording with my camera and asked "Did you read Eden's shirt!?" He read it and was like "No way, really!?" Haha he was super excited! Then we went to dinner at Santiago's to celebrate! They have the most beautiful view of the city. We are so excited and can't wait to meet our newest little babe!
