This week my heart is full of love, yet also filled with sorrow. Something tragic has happened in my city that we won't soon forget. I won't go into detail but it cost a little girl her life. For my birthday I wanted to do 26 acts of kindness to spread love in a world that is consumed by negativity. It turned out to be more meaningful to me than I ever imagened. I'm not writing this to make you think I'm a great person, but in hopes that it will inspire you to do something kind to brighten someones day. I know the little acts I did weren't anything life changing but if I was able to make someone smile, that is enough for me.
I asked my best friend Ayse to join me because of course I knew she would make it fun! She got me 26 one dollar bills to do whatever I wanted with and about 26 flowers to hand out to random strangers. She also planned a couple of other things to do just for fun while we were out and about. Our first stop was to grab some breakfast at a cute little place called Crepes Crepes. They were super nice there and I gave out a couple of flowers.
Our friend Erin works at our local news station and told us there was sadness in the air because of what had happened to the little girl, so we decided it would be more meaningful to pass the flowers out there. We told them we wanted to help brighten their day. A couple of people got emotional as we handed them flowers which of course made us emotional. That was definitely the best thing we decided to do.
Another one of my favorite things we did on my list was "buy a friend coffee" and "buy a stranger coffee" we went to a locally owned coffeeshop called Breve, and I bought my friend coffee with the money she had given me. She thanked me and I thanked her, she said "we could do this all day" lol... then we left a few dollars with the cashier to pay for the next persons drink. We sat down on a couch in perfect view of the register and inconspicuously watched as a lady walked in to order some coffee. The cashier told her that someone wanted to spread some love and left money to pay for her drink. The lady said "This has never happened to me before!' She then sat down and we heard her telling a few other ladies that someone left money to pay for her coffee. It was so fun and awesome to know that she appreciated it!
I love playing games, so my friend planned for us to go to a place called Empire where you can hang out, get some snacks, and play board games. Here, we were able to cross "make a new friend" off of my list. Who knew there were so many board games out there! As we were searching for one to play a really nice guy asked if we needed help figuring out what game to choose. He recommended a game called Raptors and taught us how to play. It was complicated but once we figured it out we got pretty competitive and had a lot of fun!
